The position of Intercollegiate Cross Country / Track Head Coach is a full-time position. The coach is responsible to the Director of Athletics for the performance of the duties that this job description assigns.


Responsible for management and development of all aspects of a collegiate cross country and track program including but not limited to:


  • Discipleship of student athletes in the program to facilitate spiritual growth
  • Teaching and modeling the value of Christian competition
  • Monitoring academic performance of student athletes and partnering with Student Development for discipleship, development and retention of student athletes


  • Recruiting and retaining quality student athletes who understand and embrace Covenant College's mission and vision
  • Find student athletes that are equipped with the ability to achieve academic and athletic success
  • Maintaining a target roster size of 40 student-athletes for the cross country/track program


  • Regularly fielding a highly competitive team within the conference
  • On-course coaching and instruction
  • Opponent scouting
  • Hiring and supervising assistant coaches
  • Other administrative duties as assigned by Director of Athletics.


  • Contributing and caring for the development and growth of the athletic department as a whole in tangible ways
  • Creating service and mission opportunities for student athletes to invest in the community


  1. Bachelor's degree required, Master's degree preferred.
  2. Experience in coaching cross country / track, collegiate coaching experience preferred.
  3. A strong understanding of and commitment to NCAA Division III.
  4. A commitment to adhering to all policies, rules, and regulations of Covenant College, our athletic conference and the NCAA.
  5. Ability to work cooperatively with other administrators, coaches, students and faculty members.
  6. Good written and oral communication skills.


  1. This job is expected to be performed primarily on campus, unless otherwise directed or arranged for, and frequently operates in a professional office environment where standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and other business and job/program specific technology and equipment may be used.
  2. This is a full-time position. Days and hours of work are generally Monday through Friday, 8am to 4:30pm. Occasional evening and weekend work may be required as job duties demand.
  3. Occasional travel is required.

  4. Foster a community of God's people who grow in His grace. Work before students and others as unto the Lord, particularly in attitude while encouraging them to hold a high view of work.
