The Coordinator of Intercultural Engagement serves as a member of the Student Development team as well as a member of the Intercultural Competency Committee (ICC), providing support and assistance to the Associate Dean of Students for Student Life and the ICC. The coordinator works closely with students, faculty, and staff, promoting and enhancing campus-wide biblical diversity, equality, educational programming, and student discipleship. The primary functions of this position are to coordinate the development and implementation of programs, events, and services and to coordinate the efforts of the Intercultural Learning Experience course (COR 337). The coordinator will live on campus, supporting and enhancing the academic, social, emotional, and overall success of students in cultural and ethnic minorities as well as the entire Covenant College student body. This person is to demonstrate an active and reformed Christian commitment, serving as a model, advisor, and facilitator of student development and academic affairs.

This is a full time, 11 month position.


ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Student Life Department


  • Campus-Wide Intercultural Engagement Programming

      • Assists in developing long-range strategic planning and program development, including the assessment of such programs and services, consistent with the mission of the College and the Student Life department.
      • Assist the Associate Dean of Students for Student Life in the delivery of year-round cultural programming from a biblical perspective.
      • Attend Student Life and Student Development staff meetings.

  • Multicultural Student Leaders

      • Co-Supervise a team of Student Leaders.
      • Intentionally meet with student leaders in groups and individually for the purpose of discipleship and accountability.
      • Assist in assigning tasks for programming.

  • International Student Support Network

      • Maintain the International Student Support network of volunteers.
      • Plan and implement International Student support programming.

  • International Student Orientation, New Student Orientation & Move-In Day

    • Co-Plan and implement Fall and Spring International Student Orientation efforts.
    • Assist with planning and implementing O-Week, Pre-Orientation, and Spring Orientation.
    • Assist with Move-In Day as assigned.

Intercultural Competency Committee

  • Assist the administration of COR 337, Intercultural Learning Experience.
    • Coordinate the ICC to advise, guide, and evaluate student coursework.
    • Approve COR 337 experiences according to guidelines established by the ICC, referring unusual requests to the committee for their approval.
    • Review course syllabus and materials with the ICC regularly.
  • Chair Intercultural Competencies Committee.
  • Prepare students for their experience by holding advising meetings.
  • Build and maintain relationships with local organizations with whom students engage.
  • Fulfill other duties as assigned.

REQUIRED EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor's degree.
  • At least four years of experience in Student Development, working with clubs, student activities, and new student orientation.
  • Demonstrated skills, knowledge, and experience working with students to assist in strategizing a thorough developmental and educational plan for improvement.
  • Experience facilitating meetings with young adults for the purpose of discipleship.

PREFERRED EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE

  • Graduate degree or working towards a graduate degree in Higher Education Administration, Educational Leadership, Communications, Sociology, English, or a related field.
  • Experience working with a website content management system.
  • Experience working with a customer relationship management system.
  • Working knowledge of Google Apps

  • An acceptance of and commitment to Jesus Christ as Savior and Lord.
  • An understanding of the mission and purpose of Covenant College.
  • Must be able to assent to Covenant College's Staff Commitments.

PHYSICAL WORK ENVIRONMENT

  • This job operates in a professional office environment.
  • This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, and filing cabinets.
  • Remain in a stationary position at least 50% of the workday.
  • Frequently moves items weighing up to 10 pounds.
